RODE Broadcaster Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone Overview
With the Rode Broadcaster, a large-diaphragm condenser microphone made especially for voice-over, radio, podcast, and broadcast applications, you can give your voice a full, rich sound that is ready for the radio. The combination of the 1″ gold-plated capsule, low-noise electronics, and strong proximity effect produces a warm, rich tone befitting high-end compositions. In addition, the cardioid polar pattern of the microphone inherently rejects sound from behind it, allowing it to pick up less background noise than many other polar responses.
It’s an end-address microphone with a clip that can be used with boom arms or stands (separately supplied), in keeping with broadcast tradition. Its unique LED can be used for “On-Air” indicator when correctly wired to a compatible console, unlike most microphones. The Broadcaster contains an integrated pop filter that is intended to control harsh “p” and “b” sounds, but many microphones need an external screen to prevent these sounds. Since the Broadcaster is a real condenser mic, it must be connected to an audio source that can provide phantom power, such as a mixer channel or mic preamp, using an XLR mic cable (separately available).
For Radio, Broadcasts, and Podcasts
The Broadcaster is a large-diaphragm, end-address condenser microphone designed to provide the ultimate performance for broadcast vocal applications. Its rich, full-quality tailored response has an emphasized proximity effect that has made it a standard in radio stations the world over. It is equally suitable as a podcast mic or a voice-over microphone for film and television.
Internal Pop Filter
The Broadcaster features an internal pop filter, designed to minimize vocal plosive sounds that can overload the microphone capsule and distort the audio output.
High-Pass Filter
In addition to the Broadcaster’s native 20 Hz to 20 kHz response, a selectable high-pass (low-cut) filter at 75 Hz is available to prevent low-end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded.
