AKG C214 Condenser Microphone Overview

The AKG C214 professional large-diaphragm condenser microphone has been designed as a cost-effective alternative to the high-end C414 family. Like the C414, the C214 offers a supreme one-inch capsule on an integrated suspension to reduce mechanical noise. A switchable 20dB attenuation pad allows the recording of loud sources of up to 156dB SPL. A switchable bass-cut filter allows close-up recording with almost no proximity effect.

The AKG C214 captures sound by combining one capsule of the legendary C414 dual-capsule system and the patented AKG Back-Plate Technology, resulting in an outstanding performance close to the famous C414 XLII.

Audio Qualities of the C414 XLII

for beautifully detailed recording of lead vocals and solo instruments

Astonishing dynamic range and ultralow noise

for close-up recording of high-output sources of up to 156dB SPL

Switchable 20dB attenuator and bass-cut filter

for close-up recording and reduction of proximity effect

Built-in suspension

to reduce mechanical noise and vibration from stage

Rugged design

all metal die cast body with shock- and scratch-resistant finish

The AKG C 214 condenser is the younger sibling of the renowned AKG C 414 condenser; it shares the 414’s legendary sound and is priced entry-level. Both are made in Austria. In fact, the more affordable C 214 is a single-diaphgram, cardioid-only device that employs the same one-inch dual-capsule as the C 414. What was the outcome? Exceptionally clear, detailed sound on both instruments and voices, with a performance that is generally reminiscent of the renowned C 414 B-XLS. With the new C 214, you can now get that legendary AKG sound on any budget!

AKG C214 at a Glance:

  • Incredible dynamic range
  • Use it on a variety of sources
  • Quality AKG construction

Versitile dynamic range

The AKG C 214 delivers AKG’s classic large-diaphragm sound – and it’s also capable of an impressive 143dB dynamic range for uncompressed, natural transients.

For Multiple Use Cases

The AKG C 214 is the ideal choice if you’re looking for a high-end vocal microphone. Not only is it well worth the money for that feature alone, but the C 214 also sounds great on a number of other instruments. The C 214 can be used in sound fields up to 156dB SPL because of its low-cut filter and switchable 20dB attenuation pad. This means that it can be used onstage for close-miking loud applications like drum overheads, guitar amps, or high-output brass. The C 214 is a great microphone to have on hand for any purpose.

Quality AKG Construction

AKG microphones are designed to perform from the ground up and are manufactured in Vienna, Austria. For even better sonic accuracy, the C 214 has an integrated capsule suspension that lowers mechanical noise and resonances. In addition, the all-metal, double-mesh grille guarantees excellent RF immunity and safeguards the capsule without compromising the mic’s acoustical performance. With its contemporary scratch-resistant finish, dent-resistant metal grille, and gold-plated XLR output, the C 214 is undoubtedly a roadworthy microphone.
