Neumann BCM 705 Dynamic Broadcast Microphone Overview
A professional dynamic broadcast microphone is the Neumann BCM 705 Dynamic Broadcast Microphone. The housing and head grille of the BCM 705 are the same as those of the BCM 104. With a hypercardioid directional characteristic, the dynamic capsule is especially suited for close-quarters speech reproduction. An elastic mount and multi-level isolation from structure-borne noise guarantee interference-free performance even in a busy studio setting. For easy cleaning, the microphone head grille twists off.
To improve voice intelligibility, the frequency response features a slight treble boost in the range of 2 kHz to 9 kHz. The bass frequency response is made up for the proximity effect’s tendency to overemphasize the bass.
A pop screen effectively keeps undesired particles from adhering to the diaphragm and also stops plosive pop noises from occurring in speech recordings.
The best way to use the BCM 705 is to hang it from a typical studio boom arm. Included is a thread adaptor to fit various connector threads. Elastic suspension is used to protect the microphone in its mount and the capsule from noise transmitted by the structure.
