RODE NTG3B Shotgun Microphone Overview

For your next independent film, TV show, or documentary project, use the Rode NTG3B moisture-resistant shotgun microphone to record broadcast-quality sound both indoors and outdoors. Expert-level features like reduced handling noise, improved immunity to radio frequency interference, and low-noise circuitry lessen the need for audio restoration and repair in postproduction.

Because of its high sensitivity, the NTG3B can generate powerful output levels without requiring your mic preamp to use excessive gain. Sonically, the NTG3B produces consistently clear sound, partly because of its low bass attenuation that reduces rumble and its gradual rise in high frequencies. You can quickly set up and concentrate on the sound instead of fumbling with different mic settings thanks to its switch- and dial-free design. The anti-glare finish on the solid brass housing keeps reflections out of the picture while also making it lightweight and long-lasting.

Designed to Withstand Every Condition

You will inevitably come into contact with humidity and condensation when working outside, which can lead to a lot of microphone malfunctions. Because of its RF bias technology, the NTG3B is nearly impervious to moisture, enabling you to consistently record high-quality audio in both favorable and unfavorable environmental settings. For added protection while traveling, it also comes with an aluminum storage cylinder that is weatherproof.

Broadcast Quality Sound

The NTG3B was designed with low handling noise, improved immunity to radio frequency interference, and broadcast-quality sound in mind. In addition, compared to most camera-mount shotgun microphones, its balanced output permits longer cable runs.

The supercardioid polar pattern and the 10″ long body of the NTG3B combine to produce maximum rejection behind the mic and focused on-axis directionality. Its highly sensitive condenser element and low self-noise of 13 dBA convey detailed audio free of the hiss that accompanies many inexpensive microphones.

Phantom Powered

The NTG3B is compatible with a wide range of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, mixer adapters, and built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras because of its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 44 to 52 VDC phantom power.

Universal Boompole Mounting

A mic clip is included with the NTG3B to make mounting it on a boompole or mic stand simple. Alternatively, to prevent vibrations from traveling from your boompole to the microphone, install the NTG3B in the Rode SMR-4 shockmount (separately sold).

Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise

To lessen annoying wind noise from fans, heaters, air conditioners, and breezes, the NTG3B features a foam windscreen. For optimal reduction of wind and handling noise in both indoor and outdoor settings, take into consideration the shockmount suspension system and furry windshield (available separately) from Rode Blimp.
