Shure SM7dB Overview
Updated from the SM7B, the Shure SM7dB has an integrated preamp for a stronger output volume, doing away with the requirement for an inline preamp. For music and speech, the Shure SM7dB provides the same wide-ranging, flat, and smooth frequency response that made the previous model so well-liked for professional audio applications. The mic is a favorite among broadcasters and podcasters because of its uniquely designed dynamic capsule, which produces a smooth, polished vocal sound with a rich response in the lower frequency registers.
Broadcast-Quality Sound
The Shure SM7dB Dynamic Microphone is equipped with protection against broadband interference, a cardioid polar pattern, bass roll-off, and midrange emphasis (presence increase) settings. Internal air suspension shock isolation reduces mechanical noise transmission, and a yoke mount makes attachment easier and gives you exact control over the location of the microphone.
Built-In Preamp
The SM7dB features a built-in preamp that is powered via 48V phantom power. The preamp can be set for +18, +28 dB, or removed from the circuit entirely via the true-bypass switch.
Cardioid Polar Pattern
The classic cardioid pickup pattern is designed to reject off-axis audio, so you can sing or speak at a comfortable angle. And, it captures the sound with minimum coloration, isolating the signal source, which helps to reduce feedback issues.
Rejection of Electromagnetic Hum
Improved rejection of electromagnetic hum—optimized for shielding against broadband interference emitted by computer monitors.
Air Suspension Shock Isolation
Internal air suspension shock isolation virtually eliminates mechanical-noise transmission.
Pop Filter
The detachable close-talk windscreen eliminates the need for any add-on protection against explosive breath sounds—even for close-up vocals or narration.
